Is It Necessary To Have Wisdom Teeth Removed?

Frequently, there just isn’t enough room in a patient’s mouth.  We find that because of the poor position of the tooth,  it will cause pain or repeated infections. Or because of the poor position of the wisdom tooth,  it can be very difficult for people who normally do a great job of cleaning their teeth to clean it appropriately because of the position and they get severe decay and the tooth can abscess. You also can find cysts or tumors around there. Also, it may be damaging nearby teeth. Frequently wisdom teeth contribute to gum disease – again, due to the lack of ability to clean around that area. Another reason, the ectopic eruption or the improper eruption of the tooth can cause cheek biting and make it extremely painful.

If any of these things are happening, I would highly recommend people coming in to have their teeth looked at and discuss what their options are.
